Wagon Condition Programme
This programme aims to improve wagon safety by enhancing existing maintenance and train preparation practices. It complements existing industry activity and is supported by independent specialists. It is aware of the commercial arrangements already existing in the freight sector. It is expected that, eventually, the Wagon Condition Programme will be included in the activities of existing and established industry groups.

Freight Precursor Indicator Model
A Precursor Indicator Model (PIM) for the passenger sector in rail already exists and gives useful insights. A PIM specifically for freight will give insights into existing and emerging safety risks for the sector. This project is developing a freight-specific PIM.

Horizon scanning
This activity uses a horizon scanning process that is specific to the freight sector. It is developing a comprehensive understanding of all existing and emerging safety risks and opportunities.

Climate change
This project is developing an understanding of the practical and operational impacts on safety risk from climate change, for all in the freight sector. It recommends mitigations to address these risks.
